Williams: Ready To Head To Stillwater

Brian Williams

Oklahoma State freshman-to-be Brian Williams can't wait to get to Stillwater, and he received some news Thursday afternoon that has him ready to play for Cowboys head coach Travis Ford.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Williams, from Baton Rouge, La., missed part of his senior season at Glen Oaks High School with a stress reaction (almost a stress fracture) in his tibia.

Following the completion of the 2009-10 season in March, Williams was placed in a cast for three weeks to make sure the leg healed properly. He has been attending rehabiliation since the cast came off several weeks ago.

"The doctors just cleared me today," said Williams, who had trouble hiding his excitment.

"I'm feeling great. I just left the doctor, and he cleared me, so I'm feeling great. I'm in no pain when I play. The doctor had me do certain things and there's no pain when I move," said Williams, who said he's pain-free for the first time since December.

Williams plans to head to Stillwater next Monday or Tuesday, and will take part in freshman orientation next week before enrolling for summer school. "I'm ready to do it," he said.

Williams and future OSU teammate Markel Brown (Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, La.) were teammates in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association East-West All-Star games in March, but their East team lost 109-102.

"It was great playing on the same team with Markel. He was running the point and I was running two guard," said Williams.

"The rules are you have to rotate (a new five players) in every five minutes, and we were up by five when we went out of the game. By the time we came back in we were down by 30. We got it back within five but couldn't pull it out," added Williams.

Williams is looking forward to getting to Oklahoma State and plans to hit the ground running now that he is 100 percent.

"I want to make some strides to get a lot stronger, and I want to really work on my game. I really think the summer workouts will be a lot harder than during the season, so I just want to get stronger and get better," he said,

We asked him which OSU teammates he is most looking forward to playing with this season? "Man, I would have said James (Anderson) but he's gone. Ray Penn, for sure, because he's my kind of point guard, and, of course, Markel (Brown)."
