Recruiting: Pokes Pursuing Californian

Defensive tackle is always a priority but it is a major priority in the 2011 recruiting class for Oklahoma State, and it would appear that the Cowboys are expanding their recruiting horizon to find big guys on the defensive front. Standout defensive tackle Christian Heyward from San Diego (Point Loma), Calif., said he has not only heard from OSU, but that he has an offer for the Cowboys.

"Oklahoma State has contacted me, Coach Doug Meacham and he seems like a nice guy," said Heyward. "They told me they have put an offer in the mail. You know they were here for the Holiday Bowl last year and I've seen them on TV and I know they are almost always ranked in the polls. They are a nice football program."

Heyward is a nice player that helped Point Loma to the CIF Division III championship game and earned second team All-State honors for his performance individually.

The 6-3, 265-pounder played defensive end this past season, but the guess is he is going to move inside to tackle as a senior and that is his likely position in college.

eyward is very athletic as he just finished basketball season last Friday at Point Loma. Because of the hoops he hasn't been in the weight room much but will now get into off season football work. He has the interest of a number of schools.

"I have offers from UCLA, Washington, Arizona, and now Oklahoma State," said Heyward. "I have heard from a bunch of other schools. I'm not stuck on staying on the West Coast. It really doesn't matter to me and I'm open to anything.

"I'm looking for a good education and a good atmosphere," added Heyward. "I'm not sure what I want to study yet, kind of undecided there."

Heyward said he is hoping to make the trip to Oklahoma this summer or late spring and have a chance to see what Oklahoma State looks like.
