Joe Mitchell On Campus, In Class

Posted Jan 21, 2010

Joe Mitchell, who signed with Oklahoma State last year and was in Stillwater last summer for summer conditioning and part of preseason camp in August, is now back on the Oklahoma State campus. He is enrolled in school and going to class, which officially makes him a part of the Cowboys football program.

The 6-3, 215-pound Mitchell is slated to play the "star" linebacker position, also a strongside linebacker.

Mitchell had to return home last August when he became caught up in an academic fraud controversy involving several coaches, including the head coach, at his high school alma mater Morton Ranch High School in Katy, Texas.

Mitchell went home and re-took an Algebra course and resubmitted his academic transcript to the NCAA Clearinghouse and he was just cleared on Tuesday.

Mitchell had played quarterback during his senior season but played safety as a junior and posted good numbers on the defensive side with 63 total tackles and four interceptions. He will count as a member of the 2010 recruiting class now and comes in with five years to play four.
