Gerron Anthony said if things went well he would commit to Oklahoma State this weekend. Things must…
Recruiting: Anthony Talks About Commitment
"It went good," said Anthony of his trip as he spoke to us while he was riding home to East Texas. "We were in Coach (Mike) Gundy's office talking. He was talking to me and my folks and I told him I was committed. It was like my third time being up there. I can tell you that I can already call it home."
The 6-3, 315-pound Anthony is very athletic for his size. He also plays basketball for the Lions. He can dunk the basketball. Football opponents know he has good feet, can really move, and is very powerful. He hasn't maxed out lately in the weight room, but you can tell by looking at him he is strong.
"It was great to be here with my mom and dad," said Anthony. "We saw everything and the (training table area) is amazing. Yes, my mom was impressed with it. I'm sold on Oklahoma State."
Anthony was asked about being the first offensive line commitment for the Cowboys and that didn't seem to impact him as much as his own personal situation.
"Yes sir, it's good to be the first offensive lineman to commit," he answered. "It just makes me feel a lot better that I don't have to worry about my school home at the next level. I can go out and play this season and not be concerned about it."
Interestingly enough, Anthony and his John Tyler teammates will start the 2009 season on the road at Texarkana Texas High. Yes, against Texarkana and Oklahoma State quarterback commit Nate Sorenson. Sorenson actually was in Stillwater on Saturday after ditching the Rivals camp in Norman, Okla., to be in Stillwater. Anthony mentioned their exchange.
"Yes, we had met," said Anthony. "I told him I was committing. He said, 'I guess you'll be blocking for me someday.' We'll see each other this season but it will be good to be teammates eventually."
Anthony was really starting to pick up action in his recruiting as Mississippi State and Louisiana-Monroe had offered and other schools were showing interest including several Big 12 schools. In fact, Texas Tech offered last week.
