Recruiting: Sanders Working Hard This Summer
"I plan on going to some of those camps," said Sanders. "I have talked to my coach to see what camps I want or need to go to. Yes, I have a brochure on the Oklahoma State camp on July 25 and that is one that I am looking at."
Sanders admitted that he and White were both almost on the OSU campus back on June 24 when a former teammate of theirs was up in Stillwater enrolling.
"Nick Rockwell, yes, we almost went up there with him when he was going up there. We were planning on going with him," said Sanders of the freshman walk-on at OSU that played quarterback at Dunbar last season.
"He is a good player and made a lot of plays for us last season. He got us out of a lot of stuff. I think he will be a very good player for OSU, not at quarterback, but I think he will switch to defense as a DB or receiver on offense."
Rockwell is a 5-11, 185-pounder that has 4.5 or better speed. Now Sanders reports he is 6-1, 201 pounds and he is running sub 4.5 and close to 4.4.
"I've been eating right, working out, and running to improve my speed," said Sanders. "I am determined to have a big season and for Dunbar to make a run at the championship. I really prefer playing wide receiver. I want to make stuff happen and be a playmaker. When the game is on the line I want to be the guy with the ball in my hands."
Last season Sanders rushed for 565 yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries. He also caught 41 passes for 503 yards and another eight touchdowns. He was first team All District 7-4A. This season he will have a shot at All-State. In fact, the two best receivers in 4A could both come from Dunbar.
One thing about recruiting that Sanders made clear is that he has not paired his list down yet. He is still open and is hoping maybe going to some camps could help pinpoint some favorites.
