Recruiting: Rome To Attend Junior Day

Chase Rome

Defensive lineman Chase Rome of Columbia (Rock Bridge), Mo., is really good size as the junior measures up at 6-3, 280 pounds. With a reported 4.7 time in the forty he is quick enough to play on the edge but says he also likes the combat inside at defensive tackle.

"I can play both," said Rome. "It really depends on which school we are talking about as to where they want me to play. Oklahoma wants me to move inside to tackle, but Oklahoma State is recruiting me as a defensive end."

Yes, and those two Big 12 schools aren't the only ones recruiting Rome. His impressive play and measureables have drawn scholarship offers already from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa.

Rome has a 380-pound bench press max and a max on the squat of 535 pounds. He doesn't play in other sports and trains for football year round. Academically he is in great shape with a 3.0 GPA and a 23 ACT score.

The all-district performer had 77 total tackles last season with 46 unassisted and 4 sacks and 4 fumbles recovered. He has a good attitude, a fair attitude about recruiting as he really gets into it.

"I would say I am pretty wide open and my theory is if a school respects me as a player and gives me a good evaluation, you know of my abilities and the way I play, then I am going to do the same for them," explained Rome. "I'm looking for what feels right and I am interested in strength of schedule and tradition."

Chase added that he is looking to major in advertising. He also has ties to two of the schools that have offered, one is obvious and the other is not. He lives in Columbia just a few miles from Mizzou.

"I am over there a lot and I have a good relationship with their coaches," said Rome. "I am going to give them the same consideration as everybody else."

The not as obvious connection has to do with his dad growing up and playing high school ball in Titusville, Fla. "My dad went to high school with Joe DeForest (OSU associate head coach)," said Rome, who said he was going to attend Oklahoma State's Junior Day on Saturday.

"My dad is going with me," he added. "I have already been to junior days at Kansas and Missouri. My whole family went with me to Kansas, and then my mom and dad went to Missouri."
