Recruiting: Cowboys Add Another Georgian
"I didn't think I would ever have a player of mine commit to Oklahoma State but Ryan went to Stillwater this weekend on his official visit and he committed to Coach Gundy and Coach Spencer," said Jarvis.
"I knew he was going to commit when he went on the trip because Coach Spencer did such a good job of recruiting him. Coach Spencer has a lot of contacts around here including having coached a couple of coaches on my staff. He knows everybody," Jarvis continued.
"OSU is getting a real good one in Ryan. He is 6-5, and we listed him at 235 pounds, but he is more like 245 or 250 now and he runs a 4.7. He is just a big active, athletic player. He was recruited by a lot of people, a lot of good ones and he had a lot of scholarships he could have taken."
Robinson had confirmed offers from Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee and there were reportedly others. We tried to reach Robinson but he had yet to answer his phone since his weekend visit, so we called his coach and he literally could talk all day about Robinson.
"I'll send you all of his stats and the profile I worked up on him, but he did it all froms sacks to hurries to batted passes," said Jarvis.
"He had a great influence on the game and he is one of those kids his teammates migrated to. I would have loved to kept him and just had him start coaching for his next season. He is that kind of kid. He is not very talkative and you would never see him dance. Some people don't think those kinds of kids are tough, but he is plenty tough and assertive on the field."
Robinson does have some academic issues, according to his coach, but he claims he is a great kid and a hard worker in the class room that is working to get those cleared up.
His brother was a standout running back at Georgia Military who is preparing to transfer to a four-year school. According to his coach Robinson is one of those prospects, who when he says he's committed, then he's committed.
"Yes, he's going to Oklahoma State and he's true to his word," added Jarvis. "If you met his parents you would know these are great people, great family and you will be proud to have them as a part of Oklahoma State. He will be a really good one for the Cowboys. Coach Spencer knows, he's seen him, and he's getting a really good one."
We are looking forward to adding Robinson's final stats to the story and will do so after we receive them from his coach. Robinson becomes the 21st commitment to the Cowboys in the 2009 recruiting class and Oklahoma State also placed wide receiver Bo Bowling on scholarship to start the spring semester and his scholarship counts in this class.
