Dez Bryant Has Knee Surgery, Out For Spring

Oklahoma State consensus All-American wide receiver Dez Bryant had small incision knee surgery Monday to correct a small ligament tear in his left knee suffered in the first half of Oklahoma State's Holiday Bowl loss to Oregon in San Diego on Dec. 30.
Cowboy head athletic trainer Rob Hunt speaking to
The Tulsa World
and OSU beat reporter Bill Haisten said Bryant had sustained "a tear of a small ligament on the outside of the knee." It was not the anterior cruciate ligament, Hunt said.
Bryant will require a rehabilitation period of "two to three months," Hunt said, and likely will miss the entire spring practice period, which begins in mid-March.
"The prognosis is excellent. Dez will be fine," said Hunt, who observed the surgery. "There's no rush to get him back for 15 spring practices. I suppose there's the chance that he could participate in the spring, but I wouldn't expect it."
The surgery on Bryant was performed in Oklahoma City by OSU athletic department ortopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Pascale.
Bryant, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, closed his sophomore season by setting Holiday Bowl records for catches (13) and receiving yards (167). He finished the season with 87 catches (second-best in school history behind Rashaun Woods' 107 in 2002), 1,480 yards (second-best behind Woods' 1,695 in 2002) and a school-record total of 19 touchdown catches.
