Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy and his staff put on one heckuva banquet Sunday night as the team honored its standout performers and the 15 seniors from this year's squad. Dave Hunziker was again perfect as the master or ceremonies and Gundy does a great job addressing the players, support staff, parents, and guests, which included OSU President Burns Hargis and Cowboy football great Bob Fenimore.
Gundy had each senior stand up and he complimented each player on his contributions to the program. He saved the seven four-year lettermen for last. Each senior was presented with their senior ring, a paddle from the paddle people students, a framed picture from the Senior Night game, a first-year membership to the O-Club, and a first-year membership to the OSU Posse.
Matt Fodge delivered the senior message to the packed audience in the Conoco-Phillips Alumni Center, the first year the event has been held there. Fodge was good saying that the most important thing left for the seniors to do was go help the team get win number 10 on the season and become one of the few OSU squads to win 10 games in a season.
There was also the debut of the highlight video for the 2008 season and it was good. An outstanding job on the video which was being viewed for the first time.
The Team Award winners for the 2008 season were:
Dr. L.L. Boger Award for Academic and Athletic Achievement - Seb Clements
Barry Sanders Award for Greatest Contribution with Least Recognition - DeMarcus Conner (offense) and Derek Burton (defense)
Mike Johnson Award for Spirit and Enthusiasm - Andre Sexton (defense) and Brandon Pettigrew (offense)
Thurman Thomas Award for Offensive MVP - Kendall Hunter and Zac Robinson
Leslie O'Neal Award for Defensive MVP - Ricky Price
Special Teams Player of the Year - Matt Fodge
Captains' Award (These are the permanent captains voted on by the team) - Matt Fodge (special teams), Brandon Pettigrew (offense), and Andre Sexton (defense)
Bob Fenimore Award for Team MVP - Dez Bryant
