Smith Runs Wild at Boone Pickens Stadium
Jeremy Smith

Mike Gundy wouldn't mind seeing some performances from Jeremy Smith like the one he put on Friday night at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. The Union High School senior, who has verbally committed to play for Oklahoma State beginning next year, ran for 242 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in leading the Redskins to a 34-20 victory over rival Jenks for the Class 6A state championship.
Smith was outstanding in his final performance while wearing the Union uniform in the same stadium where he plans to put up some big numbers in the future.
The 6-foot, 205-pound running back was unstoppable in the first half, rushing for 190 yards and all three of his touchdowns on just 16 carries. He scored on runs of 44, 32 and 15 yards as the Redskins took a 20-13 halftime lead.
When asked after the game if playing on the turf at Boone Pickens Stadium provided any extra motivation, Smith said, "It really did. The offensive line was great. We kind of started off the slow but they got it done. This is the best line I've ever had."
Smith rushed for 80 yards and scored the winning touchdown in overtime to give the Redskins a 24-17 victory over the Trojans on Sept. 12, so he knew what Union was up against Friday night in the title game.
"Jenks is a great team. They have great players and great coaches, but we came out here and we had the mindset that we were going to be 6A state champions, and we got it done," Smith of the Redskins, who finish the season with a 13-1 record and a 13-game winning streak.
Smith finishes his senior season with 1,663 yards and 30 touchdowns in 14 games.
