Cowboy Basketball: Thomas Leaves Team?

Posted Dec 3, 2008

Multiple sources have confirmed that 6-11, 230-pound post Ibrahima Thomas has left the Oklahoma State basketball team and did not make Tuesday's trip to Seattle with the Cowboys for Thursday night's game against Washington. Thomas, who was the most experienced big man for the Cowboys and first-year coach Travis Ford, was apparently discouraged with the way his season was going.

Thomas, who is oringinally from Senegal but came to Oklahoma State from Stoneridge Prep School in California, was averaging 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds a game for the 5-2 Cowboys.

Thomas logged a lot of playing time last season but through the first month of the 2008-09 season had been experiencing lots of foul trouble playing at the post most of the time.

The Cowboys will play at Washington on Thursday in the Big 12/Pac 10 Hardwood Series and it is expected that Anthony Brown will replace him in the starting lineup.

The Cowboys also got recent good news on Teeng Akol, who cleared the NCAA Clearinghouse and gives OSU another big man.

There will surely be more on this story in the coming days.
