10 Questions: Fred Gulley

Fred Gulley

Oklahoma State expects to sign six players during the early signing period which begins Wednesday. GoPokes.com visited with several of those players in recent days, asking them 10 questions to help Cowboy fans get to know them better. Here are the answers provided by Fred Gulley, a 6-2, 180-pound senior from Fayetteville, Ark., who is ranked as the 16th-beset point guard prospect in the nation.

Q: Do you have any special plans for when you sign?
Gulley: I think I'm going to have a ceremony right after school is out and everybody is going to come in and I'm going to sign.

Q: What was your deciding factor in committing to the Cowboys?
Gulley: I really felt comfortable with all the coaching staff – Coach Ford, Coach Ferguson, Coach Pierre and Coach Middleton. It just seems like a close-knit family. I also think I have the opportunity to come in and contribute right away, and that really helped influence my decision. It was also close to home but still far enough away that I feel like I'm going away to college. It was just the best situation for me.

Q: What are three words that describe you as a person?
Gulley: Honest. Blunt. Funny.

Q: What are three words that describe you as a basketball player?
Gulley: Competitive. Competitive. Competitive.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the basketball court?
Gulley: Besides winning, my favorite thing to do is to give a nice assist.

Q: What's your favorite thing to do off the court?
Gulley: I'm into movies recently, so I'd have to say catch a movie.

Q: If you don't go on to play in the NBA, what would you like to do?
Gulley: I'd like to be a political science major and eventually go to law school.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in terms of playing at Oklahoma State?
Gulley: Definitely the crowd and the fan base. Every time I go up there the crowd and fans are just so supportive and so enthusiastic. They love their basketball in Stillwater.

Q: What do you feel will be your biggest challenge in moving from high school to college?
Gulley: Probably just strength. I'm working with a strength coach right now trying to improve my strength so I can be ready for the constant pounding on the body in college.

Q: Who is the one player on OSU's roster, or in your recruiting class, that you are most excited to be teammates with next season?
Gulley: I would say Roger Franklin because we're both some of the most competitive people you'll ever meet, and we'll do whatever it takes to win.
