Daytawion Lowe, one of the best high-school safety prospects in the nation, announced Thursday that he was making a commitment to Oklahoma State and plans to sign next February with the Cowboys. The exceptionally talented 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior from Midwest City (Carl Albert), Okla., picked OSU after receiving offers from 15 schools, including finalists Nebraska, Missouri and Pittsburgh.
Lowe, a four-star recruit, is ranked as the sixth-best high school prospect in Oklahoma by Scout.com and the nation’s 15th-best safety prospect.
Although he is an exceptional athlete who excels on both sides of the ball for No. 1-ranked Class 5A Carl Albert High School, Lowe will play on the defensive side of the ball in college. He leads the Titans (7-1) with 73 tackles, and has two interceptions this season despite having few balls thrown in his direction by opposing quarterbacks.
He also has nine catches for 163 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, including an eight-reception, 162-yard effort, including a 76-yard TD catch on the game’s first play, in Carl Albert’s 16-13 victory over defending state champion Guthrie on Oct. 17.
Lowe had recently narrowed his list of college for four schools – Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri and Pittsburgh – but had received offers from 15 schools, including Oklahoma, Kansas, Stanford, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and Iowa State.
Lowe took an official visit to Nebraska the weekend of Sept. 26-28, and watched the Cornhuskers lose to Virginia Tech, 35-30. He has attended several Oklahoma State games this season, including the Cowboys’ 34-6 victory over Baylor on Oct. 18.
At the Scout.com Combine this past summer in Kansas City, Lowe put up some exceptional numbers: 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, 4.39 short shuttle, 35.5 inches in the vertical jump, 7.10 3-cone, and 9-9 broad jump.
Lowe is an excellent student who reports a 3.8 grade-point average and a 21 ACT score.
