Cowboy Football: Week Left In Summer Program

STILLWATER - There is just a week left in the Oklahoma State football summer strength and conditioning program before the 107 players working out in Stillwater, including incoming freshmen, get a week off before reporting to preseason camp on July 30 to begin preparation for the season and the Aug. 30 opener in Seattle against Washington State.
"I really like the way the squad has worked this summer," strength and conditioning coordinator Rob Glass said Wednesday on Sportstalk with Robert Allen and Friends on Triple Play Sports Radio.
"We've had a lot of guy make major gains in strength, size and agility. I likes the attitude and work ethic of this team. It is really important to them and they care a lot about each other. That is what you want to see in a team and it is an attitude the successful teams have.
"I'm also proud of the freshmen as there are a bunch of those guys that ran below 4.6 in their forties and most of those were low 4.5 and high 4.4. There were a lot of guys that had vertical jumps over 30 inches. That is a very athletic class."
Glass complimented a wide variety of players including new junior college transfers like safety Lucien Antoine and defensive tackle Swanson Miller. He really bragged on veterans like tight end Brandon Pettigrew, quarterback Zac Robinson, offensive tackle Russell Okung, linebacker Orie Lemon, wide receiver Artrell Woods, punter Matt Fodge and many others.
The summer program ends next Wednesday.
"We like to give them seven days between the end of the summer workouts and the start of fall camp," said Glass.
The team will report to campus for the start of fall camp on the afternoon of July 30 with the first practice the next day. The first seven practices will be open to the public for roughly the first hour of those workouts and then closed after that. The practice on Saturday, Aug. 2, which is the day of Fan Appreciation activities, will be completely open to the public.
The scrimmages set for August have not been decided upon as whether part of or all will be open. Those details will come out at a later date. Below you will find a complete schedule of the practices in August.
As for Fan Appreciation Day, ever wanted to kick a field goal through the uprights at Boone Pickens Stadium? Want the autographs of Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson and soccer All-American Yolanda Odenyo? Ever wonder how Cowboy football players and coaches prepare for Saturdays in the fall?
On Saturday, Aug. 2, Oklahoma State fans will get the chance to do all those things and much more when OSU hosts its Fan Appreciation Day.
Kicking off the day is OSU’s football practice, which is open to the public and will run from 8:15 a.m. to approximately 10:30 a.m. at the practice fields directly east of Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Up next, fans can get autographs of their favorite Cowboys and Cowgirls at 4 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The arena doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the OSU football and soccer teams will be available for autographs. Please note that there is a one-item limit per student-athlete. Free drinks will be available to all during this time. The autograph session will conclude at 6:30 p.m.
The format for the autograph session is broken into four different zones. Single-file lines will shuttle fans through each zone. No photographs with cameras or camera phones will be allowed with student athletes or coaches.
Cowboy and Cowgirl merchandise will also be available for purchase at the new OSU Authentic Store, while fans can also stock up on soccer and football posters and schedule cards that will be available in the arena lobbies.
There will also be a number of free activities at Boone Pickens Stadium from 6-8 p.m., as a gigantic slip-and-slide, a moon bounce, field goal and soccer goal kicking stations and sprinklers will be set up across the field. There will be beach ball giveaways, and free drinks will also be available during this time. So wear your swim suit and prepare to get wet!
For the activities at Boone Pickens Stadium, fans will need to enter the stadium at Gate 6 and only seating on the south side of the stadium will be allowed. Also, no food or drink will be allowed on the stadium playing field.
OSU Football Preseason Camp
All practices will be conducted on the grass practice fields east of Gallagher-Iba Arena unless moved by weather or the choice of the coaching staff.
