Austin Moss built up a huge résumé last season. The junior linebacker earned Class 5A All-State and All-Area honors. He was also All-District 10-5A and the District Defensive MVP while at South Garland. The linebacker finished with 142 tackles, 14 stops behind the line of scrimmage, five sacks, five fumbles caused, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.

The 6-3, 210-pound Moss runs a 4.64 in the 40-yard dash, and now he will make those plays and cover from sideline to sideline this season for Rockwall Heath High School. Moss' father, Mickey Moss, has moved his coaching title over to the District 10-4A school a little further east in the Metroplex.

"It's awesome," said Moss. "It has been a huge transition, but they have to be one of the top teams. There may not have as many skill players as there were at South Garland but they've still got plenty. It's been working out really well. A lot of these guys are really cool and I've enjoyed hanging out with them."

Heath just started spring football and Monday was their third workout. Moss said he has seen some of the college coaches come by and check out practice. Moss has 15 written scholarship offers in hand. He mentioned a few that have really impressed him.

"I haven't been to all the schools, but Iowa State, I went up there and it was impressive," started Moss. "TCU is good and they have offered. I went up to Arkansas and it was really cool. Oklahoma State just offered last week and I was up there last spring and it was pretty cool. Louisville, Baylor and Kansas are some others that I'm impressed by."

Moss said he is thinking about several majors including Sports Sciences and also pre-dentistry so that he could become either a dentist or an orthodontist.

As for his timetable on a college choice. "I'd like to get it done by the end of the summer," he said. "I have some trips to make, some other schools I want to see. I am going to be heading north. I'd like to have it done by the end of the summer."
