Savage, Bowman Impress During Pro Day Premium Story

Scouts from 25 different NFL teams were on hand Wednesday morning as 12 different Oklahoma State graduating seniors participated in the annual pro day. The scouts included former NFL stars like "Mean" Joe Greene, who now scouts for Miami, and former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Cornell Green, scouting for Denver. Many of the scouts came to Stillwater to watch Adarius Bowman and Dantrell Savage.

Both Bowman and Savage participated in last month's NFL Combine but had performances they wanted to better.

Bowman improved on his measurables with a 33.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-8.5-inch broad jump, and 16 reps on the 225-pound bench press rep test. Bowman, who had run a best 4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the combine, did run an improved 4.62 on the turf at Boone Pickens Stadium. That time was according to the watches of scouts we were standing near, but a later posted average had Bowman with a time of 4.76, which was worse than he ran at the combine. The All-Big 12 receiver had 67 receptions for 1,006 yards and 8 touchdowns last season.

Savage showed up early but then disappeared during some of the testing. He actually left to go take a test in one of his classes and then came back to run the 40. At the combine the speedy running back ran a 4.5, but today he clocked a 4.43.5 and a 4.4 flat. Both times were improved and should move Savage up in the draft. The later posted average times of all scouts clocking had Savage with the best of 4.4. Last season Savage carried 223 times for 1,272 yards and nine touchdowns despite missing several games early in the season.

Other players that impressed the scouts included Julius Crosslin, Donovan Woods, David Koenig and Tommy Devereaux. Crosslin had a 34.5-inch vertical jump, 29 on the bench press rep test and ran a best 4.76 in the 40. Crosslin should be looked at as a blocking fullback and a special teams player.

Donovan Woods; who had a team high 82 tackles, two sacks, and an interception along with being the defensive player of the game in the bowl win over Indiana; had a 35.5-inch vertical jump, did 21 reps on the bench press, and ran 4.7 flat in the 40. He would be looked at as a free agent linebacker prospect.

Koenig was impressive as a more athletic offensive line candidate that threw up the 225 pounds on the bench press 30 times. Koenig, who was an All-Big 12 performer, also ran a 5.28 in the 40.

Devereaux, who caught seven passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns, ran a speedy 4.5 in the 40.

Other former Cowboys who participated in the pro day included fullback Zach Carter, defensive end Marque Fountain, defensive end/linebacker Rod Johnson, running back DeAaaron Martin, linebacker Jeremy Nethon, and cornerback Martel Van Zant.

Van Zant, who is still nursing an ankle injury and is conditioning, only did the bench press and had an impressive 25 reps on that.
