The numbers tell the story for the Oklahoma State basketball team: 24 turnovers and K-State's 29 offensive rebounds. Not many teams are going to win when those numbers show up on the stat sheet at the end of the game, especially playing against Michael Beasley. The KSU freshman scored 23 points as the Wildcats rolled to an easy 82-61 victory over the Cowboys on Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.
The loss drops Oklahoma State to 11-12 overall and 2-7 in Big 12 play this season, and extends the program’s road losing streak to 19 games. The Cowboys have gone more than two years since winning a game on the road.
Kansas State improves to 17-5 overall and 7-1 in Big 12 action.
The Cowboys fell behind by as many as 16 points in the first half but classed their way back to within 38-33 on Martavius Adams’ putback right before the buzzer sounded.
But the 20th-ranked Wildcats scored the first eight points of the second half and the Cowboys were never able to get the margin to single digits the rest of the way.
The bigger, stronger and more determined Wildcats out-rebounded the Cowboys by 22 (51-29), while grabbing as many offensive rebounds as Oklahoma State did in the game (29). Those offensive rebounds led to the Wildcats taking 34 more shots than the Cowboys did throughout the game.
Beasley led all scorers with 23 points and added 13 rebounds, but he got plenty of help from Jacob Pullen (17) and Billy Walker (14).
Terrel Harris scored 16 points to lead Oklahoma State, while James Anderson added 14.
The Cowboys' 19-game road losing streak ties for the second longest in school history. OSU must win one of its final three road games (either at Texas A&M, Missouri or Texas) to avoid the longest streak in school history (which stands at 21 games, set from 1928-31).
OSU returns home to face Baylor Wednesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
