Cowboys Can't Stop Streak In Lubbock

Oklahoma State fans were told in October that the Cowboys would attempt more three-pointers this season than any time in recent memory. But Sean Sutton’s declaration that the Cowboys would bomb away came with a warning – that when the shots weren’t falling it may lead to trouble. That was the case Saturday afternoon as OSU lost 67-60 to Texas Tech for its 18th consecutive road loss.

The Cowboys made just 6 of 31 three-pointers in the loss to the Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas. Sutton’s team attempted just 24 shots inside the three-point arc Saturday afternoon at the United Center Arena.

OSU saw its record drop to 10-11 overall and 1-6 in the Big 12 Conference. The Cowboys have now lost six games in a row for the first time in 21 years (the 1986-87 season), when Leonard Hamilton was head coach, and have not won since defeating Texas Tech 74-55 in Stillwater on Jan. 12.

The 18-game road losing streak ties for the third longest in school history. The Cowboys lost 18 consecutive during a streak that began during the 1970-71 season and didn’t end until Jan. 13, 1973 with a victory at Nebraska.

The Cowboys, who are 0-12 in Big 12 road games since Sean Sutton took over as head coach, trailed by double digits in the second half before pulling within 38-36 on James Anderson's basket off an offensive rebound. But the Red Raiders went on a 6-0 run and pulled away for the victory.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well. Early we had some success driving and then we just quit driving ... and we started settling for three-point shots," OSU head coach Sean Sutton said. "When you take 31 three-pointers on the road you can't expect to win."

Freshman Ibrahima Thomas recorded the first double-double of his Cowboy playing career, finishing with a team-best 16 points and 10 rebounds. Anderson and Terrel Harris were also in double figures with 12 points apiece.

But the Cowboys struggled to make the shots from behind the three-point arc, and were out-rebounded by the Red Raiders 40-28.

The Cowboys' top shooters struggled to make three-pointers as Anderson was 2 of 7, Harris 1 of 6, Obi Muonelo 1 of 5, Marcus Dove 1 of 5, and Byron Eaton 0 of 4.

The Cowboys will try to get back in the win column Wednesday night when they host the Colorado Buffaloes at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
