Cowboys Sign Proby, Page

The Oklahoma State Cowboys signed a pair of players on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. Signing with the Cowboys were 6-foot-9, 250-pound Dee Proby of Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas, and Pawnee (Okla.) High School guard Keiton Page.

“We’re very excited about the additions of Keiton and Dee to the Cowboy basketball program,” said head coach Sean Sutton in a release from the OSU Media Relations Office. “They both fill specific needs with the personnel we will have returning next season. Both are talented and terrific young men who will represent our program in a positive manner. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to coach both of them next season.”

Proby is a sophomore at Angelina College, a junior college in Texas, where he averaged 6.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 31 games a year ago as a freshman. Through the Roadrunners’ first five games of the 2007-08 season, he is averaging 13 points and eight rebounds a game. He scored a season-best 18 points against Temple last week.

“Dee is a very talented front-line player that we expect to come in and contribute to our team next year,” said assistant coach Kyle Keller. “For a strong post player, he has the ability to step out and shoot the three-point shot as well as score in the paint. His experience will also be a key addition for our front line next season.”

The 5-foot-10 Page, who committed to the Cowboys 18 months ago, is one of the best players in the state of Oklahoma. As a junior, he was second in the state in scoring (36 ppg), and connected on better than 51 percent of his shots from behind the three-point line (139 of 273), while shooting 85.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Page has led Pawnee to the Class 2A state tournament the last three seasons, including in 2005 when he helped the Black Bears to the state championship with a 29-point performance in a 66-65 victory over Wewoka.

“Keiton is a skilled player,” said assistant coach James Dickey. “He is an excellent student and and outstanding shooter. He will be a great addition to our basketball program and to Oklahoma State University. Keiton is an extremely hard worker who is a winner. He comes from a basketball family and we are very pleased to sign another big-time player from the state of Oklahoma.”
