Recruiting: Owens Enjoys His Visit

Jameel Owens

U.S. Army All-American wide receiver Jameel Owens of Muskogee, Okla., was on his way back home Sunday afternoon after making an official visit this weekend to Oklahoma State. Owens, who said going in that the visit was more for his mom, has been to at least three OSU games this season and is good friends with sophomore defensive end Derek Burton, a former Muskogee teammate.

Owens said he had two hosts over the weekend visit that ended Sunday with him spending a lot of time with OSU head coach Mike Gundy, offensive coordinator Larry Fedora, and wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer.

"My host on Friday was Richetti Jones," said Owens of the former U.S. Army All-American from Dallas who is a freshman defensive end that is red-shirting. "Then on Saturday my host was Derek (Burton). It went really good and I had a nice time."

The 6-4, 210-pound speedy Owens had said last week that the visit was for his mother, so the natural question is what did she think? "She thinks it's a good program, good school," said Owens. "She liked it, the people, everything."

There is no doubt that Owens got to see a good game. He had originally been scheduled to visit LSU this weekend but canceled that to see OSU and Kansas State in a game that OSU won in the final seconds 41-39.

"It was a pretty exciting game," said Owens, who also had a chance to see the team in the locker room afterwards. "It's a good team, and it is all about the team. You can tell all those guys are good teammates to each other."

Owens also commented again on being selected for the U.S. Army All-American Game to be played in January at San Antonio, Texas. Owens plans on making his announcement on college at the game during the national broadcast. He will visit Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Florida all in December.

"It's a good honor," said Owens of being selected. "I'm really blessed to have the ability to play in that game. It's a big deal and I'm going to enjoy it."

After enjoying his visit to Oklahoma State this weekend, the Cowboys are in the running to enjoy the announcement that Owens will make during the U.S. Army game. This week Owens and his Muskogee Rougher teammates have an important game for playoff seeding as they host Owasso.
