Richland (Texas) High School lineman Deveric Gallington announced last week that he was committing to Texas Tech. That didn't sit well with teammate Victor Jones, an Oklahoma State commit. Jones now has bragging rights over Gallington following Saturday's win by the Cowboys. We caught up with Jones early Sunday evening to talk with him about his unofficial visit to OSU.

“It was amazing. It was a good win for the team. I knew they’d pull it out,” said Jones.

Jones didn’t waste any time in contact Gallington upon returning home Sunday. “I talked to him,” laughed Jones. “He said something like the only reason we won is because we were lucky that the last pass was dropped in the end zone. I told him the only reason they lost is because we won. He didn’t have anything to say after that.

“The trip was amazing. I had a chance to talk with Coach (Mike) Gundy, and he told me how excited they were to having me arriving next year,” said the 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker. “I’m really excited to be a Poke.”

Jones really liked witnessed The Walk, in which the Cowboy coaches and players walk through hundreds of OSU fans on their way to the stadium about three hours before the game. “I thought that was amazing,” Jones said. “We (the recruits) walked behind the rest of the team, and it was amazing to see that many people. I can’t wait to do it myself as part of the team next year.”

The Richland Rebels are 2-1 after three games (they had an open week this past week), and the season “is going great,” Jones said. “I’m pleased with how I’m playing, but I know that I can do better. I can always do better, and I’m working hard to improve, that’s how I look at my game and my life. I can always do better.”

Through three games, Jones has 16 unassisted tackles, 14 assisted tackles, one quarterback sack, three tackles for losses, two broken up passes and two fumbles caused.

Although his number one priority now is to help Richland defeat Colleyville Heritage Friday night, Jones is already getting excited about wearing the orange and black.

“I was impressed with so much this past weekend. Just seeing all the orange, and all the cannons and guns going off got me excited,” said Jones, who plans to make his official visit in December. “It’s the place where I can really see myself fitting in. I loved it when I was up there in the summer, and I loved it again Saturday.

“Stillwater is like no other place I’ve been, and that’s what I chose it,” Jones said.
