Recruiting: Top Texas DT Has OSU In Top Two

Jarvis Humphrey of Cedar Hill, Texas is considered one of the top defensive tackle prospects in Texas and the nation. The 6-2, 290-pound Humphrey helped the Longhorns win the Class 5A state championship this past season and has proven that he is a major load for any offense to deal with inside.

He was an all-district performer and received some all-metro attention as well. Humphrey runs a 5.0 in the 40-yard dash and has a bench press max of 300 and can squat 570 pounds. He is a powerlifter and also competes in shot and discus in track and field for Cedar Hill.

Humphrey has been in high demand so far in the early recruiting for signing day 2008.

"I've been to Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M," answered Humphrey when asked which schools he had visited . "I like Texas a lot. They have great facilities. The players and coaches are great. It feels a lot like home to me. Oklahoma State is the same way, and those are my top two schools right now."

Humphrey actually made his unofficial visit to Oklahoma State this weekend (March 10-11).

"It was nice and they showed me everything I needed to see," said Humphrey of the visit. "Coach (Curtis) Luper is recruiting me and I get along with him great."

Humphrey said he liked the facilities he saw at Texas A&M and that when he visited Oklahoma he saw that they have all the equipment that you need to be successful.

Humphrey has a lot of choices and he said he has been taking his time as far as looking at schools, but that might not be his strategy for the rest of his recruitiment.

"I have been taking my time seeing the schools," said the celebrated defensive tackle prospect. "I plan on sitting down with my coach (Joey McGuire of Cedar Hill) and talking about what school I need to go to."

Humphrey said it does help Oklahoma State that the Cowboys signed his teammate William Cole in their 2007 recruiting class.

"It helps a little bit because it is always good to have somebody you know at the school you go to," he said.

Humphrey is a good student as well as football player and said he is interested in majoring in computer science and/or business.

Stay tuned as Humphrey is a top target for Oklahoma State and a number of schools, including those other three he has unofficially visited.
