Recruiting: Big Weekend Underway
First, the immediate news this weekend. Tight end Wilson Youman of St. Martinsville, La., did reschedule his visit with ULL (Louisiana-Lafayette) and made it to Stillwater for his visit. Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. wide receiver Co-Eric Riley is going to make the trip to Stillwater next weekend. Late reservations from wide receiver Darnius Moore of Tatum, Texas, and College of the Sequoyias (Calif.) cornerback Woodny Turenne held up and both are in for visits this weekend.
Norman's Ryan Broyles, a recent commitment, is going to drag his presence out over two weekends by coming up and participating in this weekend on an unofficial basis and then coming back to Stillwater with his parents next weekend for an official visit. Broyles could turn out to be a late recruiting helper within the class much like highly regarded All-American Richetti Jones has been.
What are reasonable expectations from this weekend? Obviously, you expect commitments to be renewed and strengthened with Broyles, Mustang, Okla., wide receiver Josh Cooper, Bixby, Okla., linebacker Jared Glover, and Tyler (John Tyler), Texas, running back Kendall Hunter.
With Southern Miss being the leader, Wilson Youman should be blown away by the Cowboys and everything that is going on in the program. Expect Youman to come away committed, or close to it, and ULL may never seen him make it to Lafayette.
It is reasonable to expect the OSU staff to turn Arlington (Seguin), Texas, safety Jonathan Clark into a Cowboy commit. The coaching change at Arizona State helps and the closer proxmimity to home is another big plus, not to mention the Cowboys need for the future at safety.
Darnius Moore turned down Texas A&M and Texas Tech for visits this weekend to make the trip to Stillwater. Moore has always seemed to like Oklahoma State for some reason, much more than his running back teammate Lennon Creer. Being around the OSU players and coaches could lead Moore, a quiet kind of guy, to bring his recruitment to a close.
That is a possibility, a realistic one, of the Cowboys adding four commitments over the weekend. Big bonuses could be Sam Proctor, Hubert Anyiam and Woodny Turenne. All three are highly recruited and figure to need time before making any decision. The campus visit at Oklahoma State is a powerful tool these days, so you never now. It is more realistic to expect something to happen with the others, but nothing really surprises us anymore.
Outside Stillwater the most important visit is taking place in Austin, Texas. Tyrell Higgins said he is still an OSU commitment, as he has been since the summer. Texas has offered and has him in this weekend. Provided he stays committed to OSU and keeps his appointment for a visit on the final weekend Feb. 2 then the Cowboys have a good shot. Too much buttering up from Mack Brown and a change in status would make it really difficult. The key is Higgins making his Cowboy visit.
