Recruiting: Alexander Commits To Cowboys

"I'm really charged up, and I don't know if I'll even be able to go to sleep tonight," said linebacker Kenny Alexander of McKinney (North), Texas, on Wednesday night after verbally committing to Oklahoma State.

"The toughest call I have ever had to make," said Alexander. "I called Coach (Tony) Alford (of Iowa State) first and told him about my decision. Then I called Coach Bradford (OSU linebackers coach Todd Bradford) and that was the easiest call I've ever made. I was excited. He was excited. We were both real excited."

The 6-1, 210-pound linebacker said his decision came down to Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Purdue.

"I had sat down with my parents yesterday and then we sat down again today and talked about my options," he said. "When we had talked it all out my dad told me it looked like a good time to make my decision and he was right. I had gone up to Oklahoma State on June 2. With all the rebuilding they are doing and how the facilities will be re-done they will have the best facilities in the nation and it is one of the best places in the nation for a football player to go. I really did fall in love with it."

Alexander is ranked as one of the top linebackers in Texas despite missing about half the season to shoulder problems as a junior.

"It was my shoulder. You know how you get stingers," said Alexander. "I was getting them twice a practice and it got so bad that I could barely move my arm. The treatment was to rest it and I got rehab on my shoulder and now it is better than before. I haven't had any problems in the spring or since. I'm looking forward to having a big season."

He is looking good now and said he feels he will be up to 215 pounds for the start of the season. His 4.55 time in the 40-yard dash is not a best time, but an average time. He has a 285-pound bench press max and his squat max is 540 pounds.
