NORMAN, Okla. (http://www.okstate.com) — Oklahoma State head coach Mike McGraw has been named the Eaton Golf Pride Dave Williams Award winner as the national coach of the year it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America today.
McGraw took over the Cowboy program this season after serving as the head coach for the women’s team last year. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant for the men’s squad under former head coach Mike Holder. McGraw led the Cowboys to five tournament victories this season - including their 10th national title - and placed no lower than a tie for fourth place in 12 stroke play events.
"I’m humbled by this honor and want to thank the kids on the team," said McGraw. "I especially want to thank Alan Bratton, my assistant, who did more than you can imagine to help this team."
McGraw led his team to back-to-back victories at the Hall of Fame Invitational and Morris Williams Intercollegiate in mid-spring before claiming titles at The Maxwell, Central Regional and NCAA Championship to close out the season.
The honor completes an impressive haul of awards for the Cowboys, who also produced the Jack Nicklaus Award (national player of the year) winner in sophomore Pablo Martin, the Byron Nelson Award (based on golf, academics and citizenship over a collegiate career) winner in senior Zack Robinson and the Arnold Palmer (NCAA medalist) and Phil Mickelson (outstanding freshman) recipient in redshirt freshman Jonathan Moore.
In addition, Martin and Moore were both named first-team All-Americans.
