OSU Makes Softball Coaching Change

Several sources have confirmed that Oklahoma State has informed softball head coach Margaret Rebenar and her staff that they have been fired. The Cowgirls wrapped up the current season last week when they were eliminated from the Big 12 Postseason Tournament by number two seed Nebraska 1-0 in eight innings. The Cowgirls finished the season with a 21-29 record that did include a feisty run in the Big 12 tournament that included an upset 2-1 win over top-seed and second-ranked nationally Texas.

Rebenar has been at Oklahoma State for 27 years and has served as head coach for the past five seasons. Her team last season finished 35-24 and returned to NCAA regional play after a one-year hiatus.

During her stint at Oklahoma State she served as an assistant coach handling outfielders, hitting, and pitching aspects of the game. In 1998 she stepped in when then head coach Sandy Fischer took a leave of absence. Rebenar led the Cowgirls to the Final Four of the Women's College World Series. Rebenar was a part of nine conference champions, eight regional champions, and teams that made nine appearances in the Women's College World Series.

Rebenar, who was assisted this past season by Kim Ward and Shannon Sullivan, started he college coaching career as a pitching coach at UCLA.

There is no word on a replacement for the head coaching position, but it is expected that a national search will take place.
