A summer, weekly look at former OSU stars and their impact on the majors.

Former OSU right-hander Jon Adkins has been so impressive out of the bullpen as a major league rookie that the Chicago White Sox are considering moving him into their starting rotation.

Jon Adkins, who won the last spot on the White Sox's pitching staff during spring training, ended May with a 2-1 record and 2.89 ERA in 12 appearances.. He picked up his first major league win April 14 vs. Kansas City.

Adkins, 26, has especially been effective against the New York Yankees, shutting them out over 4 1-3 innings in two outings.

The White Sox acquired Adkins from the Oakland Athletics for second baseman Ray Durham on July 25, 2002. Adkins was Oakland's ninth-round selection in 1998. He made his ML debut with four relief appearances for the White Sox late last season.

Adkins gave OSU fans a glimpse of his big league potential during his career with the Cowboys from 1996-98. Among his best outings were a strong start against Alabama in the 1996 College World Series opener and a four-hitter in a victory over Tennessee in the 1997 Midwest Regional opener at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium
