| Diary of a recruit: Bobby Reid | ||||
Robert Reid
|
Robert Reid is back home in Houston after a trip to San Diego for the EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp. Since his last entry, Reid has downgraded his interest in one school, maintained his displeasure with another school and had a "heart-to-heart" with Rhett Bomar. If that isn't enough to peak your interest - Don't you want to know what almost brought this Houston senior to tears while in California? | |||

San Diego was great. The best part was when they played a prank on me.
The head coaches got together and showed me a newspaper article from the Houston
Reporter that said I wasn’t going to be able to play in college and my high
school team would have to miss the playoffs because of me. It said that I had
made contact with a sports agent, so that meant I had crossed the lines. I just
kept thinking, “I don’t know any sports agents,” and I thought that maybe with
all the reporters I had talked to that maybe one of them was an agent and they
just didn’t tell me. I was really about to cry, seriously. The ESPN dude was
there and I guess he helped them alter the thing to make the newsletter look
legit. They let me believe it for about five minutes, at that point I was really
going to cry – I am not lying. I don’t think they knew that though, but it was
about that time when they told me it was a joke. When we all went to the Chargers practice, it was really pretty sweet. I took my picture with Drew Brees and Doug Flutie, which was the best part. We did go to the beach, it was a whole lot prettier considering what we have in Galveston. We just chilled, some of the guys were playing volleyball and getting some sun and everything. It was really relaxing and nice to just hang out and not worry about anything. Yeah, so everyone keeps talking about how since Rhett (Bomar) committed to Oklahoma, that Texas will be going after me now. I can say this, I kinda used to like Texas, but the way they treated me, I don’t see them ever entering my mind again. I thought everyone knew that already. I am finished with them. They treated me like they had me on a string, and the only time they wanted any thing to do with me was when they felt like they should be making contact. I didn’t like that at all, and I am not going to sit around and let someone hold me on a string like that, because if they act interested again, it is only because of other situations, and they would feel like they needed me. I don’t want to be the person that people come to only when they feel like they need something – I want them to want me because I am a good player. As far as Rhett goes, I am really happy for him. It is exciting that he has made his commitment and he is certain where he wants to go. I just want to wait to make sure I don’t rush anything. I hung out with everybody in San Diego, but I had met Rhett a few times before at other things. I really had no choice in San Diego though, we were kind of pushed together and about the third day Rhett opened up a little to me about some things, and I can truly say that I feel nothing but excitement for him and his choices. Yeah, people want to put us “against” each other since we are supposed to be like the top two quarterbacks in Texas, but it isn’t like that at all. I like him, I think he likes me, and there isn’t any, like, animosity or anything between us. We get along, and we both work hard at the camps because that is what we are there to do. There isn’t time to get into drama or anything. The drama is just something that people make up because they need something to talk about, I guess.
Yeah, so Georgia is out of the mix. I am not pursuing
that anymore. They got their second commitment at quarterback already, and I am
not interested in being the third guy out there. What I didn’t like is that my
mom basically found out when she was surfing the Web. It was a pretty big
surprise to me that it happened, but that of course drops Georgia off my list.
Actually, it wouldn’t really have mattered if they had called me and let me know
they were about to get the commitment from him (Blake Barnes), because I am not
interested in committing to anyone early because I want to make sure I make the
right decision. I wouldn't have rushed my decision because there was another guy
ready to commit (then). That is way too early for me and I am going to
concentrate on my high school season and see what happens after that. I will
take my time and decide later, maybe right around signing day. You never know,
they could have been a great fit for me, but they obviously think they have
their guy now. Hey, I am just ready to get two-a-days going. The season is around the corner and I can’t wait to get out there.
