Gundy Hires Former Arizona State Coach

Mike Gundy announced the hiring of Bob Connelly as Oklahoma State's new offensive line coach on Friday morning. Connelly has an extensive resume that includes stops at college football powers like Alabama, UCLA and Arizona State. He also has Texas roots having gone to Carrollton Newman-Smith High School in the Dallas area, and having earned academic and athlete honors at Texas A&M Commerce.

"Bob is a great addition to our staff," Gundy said. "He brings maturity and experience working with the offensive line. He is very familiar with the state of Texas. He has an extensive background in the no-huddle style of offense."

Connelly coached most recently at Arizona State, where he held the title of associate head coach and mentored the Sun Devil offensive line in 2012. During the 2013 season he coached at Arizona high school powerhouse Gilbert High School.

Some of Connelly's most prominent pupils during his coaching career include 2008 Outland Trophy winner and the sixth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, Andre Smith, plus three other players who were also selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft in Justin Smiley (second round in 2004), Evan Mathis (third round in 2005) and Antoine Caldwell.

Other prominent players he has coached include Wesley Britt, New England Patriots; Rex Tucker, Chicago Bears; and Cameron Spikes, Arizona Cardinals.

A native of Carrollton, Texas, who graduated from Texas A&M Commerce in 1994 with a degree in kinesiology and then a master's degree in health, physical education and recreation, Connelly was an All-America offensive guard as well as a two-time member of the Academic All-America team. He was singled out as his school's male athlete of the year during his playing career.

He and his wife, Racquel, have two daughters, Taylor and Paige.
