Junior College Defensive Back Picks OSU

D'Nerius Antoine

The "Pistols Firing" signal went out on social networking early Thursday afternoon causing Oklahoma State fans to start checking who in Athens, Texas was a candidate to be a Cowboy. Having a son as the defensive coordinator at NEO A&M and having been to Athens to see the Norsemen play the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals, I figured it might be a TVCC player.

"Yes, it's me," said Trinity Valley safety and first-team All-SWJCFC performer D'Nerius Antoine. "Oklahoma State has a lot of nice things. It's a good school and they have a chance for a BCS title. That's why I committed to them." Antoine, who is currently 6-0 and 215 pounds, was a three-sport athlete in high school as he earned first-team All-State honors along with All-Acadiana and All-District awards in football at Westgate High School in New Iberia, La. He was a standout in three sports competing in basketball and track as well.

In fact, he also played some basketball at Trinity Valley averaging 2.0 points and 3.3 rebounds a game. "I played for awhile, but not anymore," he said.

This season, he helped the Cardinals to a 10-2 record and 6-1 finish in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. He had 69 total tackles with 56 unassisted, five tackles for losses, three fumbles caused, two fumbles recovered, two interceptions, and eight passes broken up. The Cardinals also won their bowl game over Mesa Community College from Arizona.

Antoine will not be a mid-year transfer. He will finish the spring semester at Trinity Valley before enrolling at OSU for the summer.

"They are talking to me about playing the star linebacker position," he said.

Southern Miss and Troy had offered but a number of other schools were showing interest in Antoine. He becomes the 25th verbal commitment for Oklahoma State and is the second star linebacker candidate in the class. There is a possibility that they will continue recruiting the position for one more prospect at the position.
