Trey Roberts: Icing On The Cake For Me

Trey Roberts

Trey Roberts is hoping that some momentum will come around for the new coaching staff, the new offense, and he and his teammates at Houston Eisenhower this Friday when they play host to Clear Springs in their final non-district game of the season. The 6-1 1/2, 190-pound athlete is ready to start winning.

"We've been progressing with the new offense and the new coaches, but it has been moving slow," said Trey Roberts, who committed to Oklahoma State this summer to play cornerback. "We're running a spread I that is 50/50 with shotgun and being under center."

Roberts may be bound to play cornerback when he gets to Oklahoma State. Right now, he says he is playing a little corner while spending the majority of his time at quarterback and wide receiver making it necessary for him to learn the offense.

It's not like Eisenhower has had it easy. Their first three opponents have been Fort Bend Hightower (14-13 loss), Klein Collins (35-12 loss), and Fort Bend Bush (37-0 loss).

As for his long-range future, Roberts said he is all in on his pledge to Oklahoma State. His opportunity to see the Cowboys' 21-1 victory over Mississippi State play Houston at Reliant Stadium was a huge positive.

"It was awesome, the icing on the cake for me," said Roberts. "Man, did they have great fan support. That stadium was packed out. There was a lot of orange in there."

As for the recent Sports Illustrated series, Roberts said it had no effect. "I have not looked at it, haven't seen it," he said. "I've talked to coach (Van) Malone about it, but no sir, it has no impact at all with me. None."
