STILLWATER - Oklahoma State fans of all ages piled into Gallagher-Iba Arena Saturday afternoon for one of the most anticipated events of the year — Fan Appreciation Day.

The fans went through lines to meet and get autographs from their favorite players and coaches, and for Nathan Dominick of Stillwater, this is the first of what he expects to be many thrills this season.

“It’s almost overwhelming,” Dominick said. “This is a major event in Stillwater. It just shows how people like the Cowboys and really believes in them.”

But at the heart of fan appreciation day is the kids. Jason Reynolds brought his two kids, and they were all smiles for at the event.

“It’s just awesome,” Reynolds said. “Our kids love everything about it.”

For 10-year-old Daniel Oliver the chance to get an autograph from running back Jeremy Smith was the highlight of the day.

“The players are like Superman for these kids,” said Daniel’s father, Jeremiah Oliver. “They get to come out and meet all their favorite players, and it’s also good for guys like me who contribute to the university. It makes a good time for everybody.”

And as for expectations entering the season, they couldn’t be much higher, especially after OSU was ranked No. 14 in the nation in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

“I’m hoping for a Big 12 Championship and BCS Bowl game,” Oliver said. “We have all the tools to do it. If the defense shows up this year, we’ve got as good of a shot as anybody.”
