Daytona tied a Florida State League record knocking out nine doubles in their 9-7 win over Bradenton as catcher Chadd Krist ripped three two-baggers. Ty Wright blasted a pair of two-run homers but Iowa fell on a walk-off.

Roster Moves

RHP Kyle Hendricks is expected to join AAA Iowa but was added to the Mesa’s (Arizona Rookie League) roster until a spot opens in Iowa in the coming days. He started Aug. 1 so should be in Iowa by Aug. 5….... Armando Rivero, signed in March for $3.1 million out of Cuba, has been promoted to Tennessee from Kane County. Rivero had a rough start in the MWL but has been lights out his last 9.2 innings not allowing a run on 5 hits with 18 strikeouts…...Ben Wells was taken of the DL at Daytona and pitched in relief…….To make room on the Daytona roster, the Cubs promoted right-handed pitchers Eduardo Figueroa and Dayan Diaz to Tennessee, who both pitched Friday night in Jacksonville.

AAA—Salt Lake 5, Iowa 4

Salt Lake rallied past Iowa scoring the tying run in the eighth and then delivered the walk-off bases loaded single in the 9th to send Iowa to their eighth straight loss.

At the Plate: RF Ty Wright (.265) was the offense Friday night as the right-hander blasted a pair of two-run homers (5). SS Edwin Maysonet (.237) doubled while CF Jae-Hoon Ha (.238) and 1B Tim Torres (.205) both singled as Iowa was held to five hits.

On the Mound: The PCL and AAA have not been kind to 23-year-old Nicholas Struck (5-8 6.23ERA). The right-hander threw 79 pitches working into the 6th allowing six hits, three walks, and three earned runs. Casey Coleman (2-2 3.30) got the I-Cubs out of a sixth inning jam and finished with a line of 1.2IP, 1H 0R, 0BB, 2K. Chang-Yong Lim (0-0 2.25) had his first blemish in his Cubs career after signing a two-year deal in the winter. The right-hander from South Korea surrendered the tying run in the 8th on a walk, a single and a double play. Brain Schlitter (1-3 3.21) only got one out as a walk and three hits ended the game.

Cubs Notes: Mike Olt is off to a rough start for the I-Cubs. Acquired in the Matt Garza trade, the third baseman is 4-39 with 14 strikeouts and two walks.

AA— Jacksonville 1, Tennessee 0

Tennessee had twice as many hits as Jacksonville but the Suns pushed across a run in the fifth for the win.

At the Plate: The Cubs had eight hits but went 0-8 with RISP. CF Matt Szczur (.277) 3B Christian Villanueva (.264) and RF Rubi Silva (.283) all had two hits. 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.270) and C Rafael Lopez (.253) had the other two base knocks. SS Javier Baez (.214) went 0-4 and was ejected for arguing with the ump in the ninth after taking strike three. Brett Jackson was 0-3 with a walk and is 4-18 in five games.

On the Mound: Eduardo Figueroa made his first career AA start pitching four shutout innings before allowing a run in the fifth. The right-hander threw 69 pitches, 44 for strikes, yielding four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Dayan Diaz, who spent previous six years in the Astros organization, made his AA debut blanking the Suns for two innings with three strikeouts. Tony Zych (2-4 2.82) worked a scoreless eighth as the 22-year-old right-hander continue to pitch well out of the pen for Tennessee.

High A—Daytona 9, Bradenton 7

Daytona scored seven runs in the fourth and tied a FSL record with nine doubles in the win over Bradenton

At the Plate: Daytona had 15 hits, nine of them two-baggers, including three by Chadd Krist (.233). Also involved in the record setting double fest were Zeke DeVoss (2), Anthony Giansanti (1), Wes Darvill (1), Bijan Rademacher (1) and Benjamin Carhart (1). Rademacher’s (.256) double inflicted the most damage plating three runs in the seven-run fourth. DeVoss (.253) was 3-4 with 2 RBI, a walk and two runs as he continues to excel in the leadoff spot. Darvill (.246) knocked in two runs and Elliot Soto (.253) was 1-1 with a RBI and three walks. Pin-Chieh Chen (.269) scored twice with a 2-4 night. All of the Cubs starters had at least one hit and they were all on base at least twice.

On the Mound: Corey Black (3-8 4.47) made his Cubs organizational debut after being traded for Alfonso Soriano. The right-hander went four innings and only allowed three hits, but two of those left the park accounting for four runs. The 21-year-old fanned eight and walked three. Ben Wells (7-6 3.47) pitched in his first game since July 21 (7-day DL) making his first relief appearance of the season. Wells gave up four walks and two hits plating three earned runs in two innings. Lendy Castillo pitched in his third FSL game and threw the ball well. The right-hander earned his first save twirling three shutout frames with four punchouts.

Low A—Wisconsin 7, Kane County 4

Wisconsin ended Kane County’s three-game winning streak with a 17-hit attack.

At the Plate: Rock Shoulders (.266) got the big hit, a three-run double in the fifth with two outs. Albert Almora (.332) went 3-5 and it was his 10th game with at least three hits. Gioskar Amaya (.271) was 2-5 with a run while Jeimer Candelario (.255) was 1-3 with a RBI. Oliver Zapata (.249) tripled and scored

On the Mound: Michael Heesch (3-6 4.03) came off the DL today and made his 17th start of the season. The left-hander went six innings allowing five runs on two walks and 12 hits, including a solo homer. He fanned two….LHP Al Yevoli (0-0 4.76) fanned four in two innings but allowed two runs on three hits and a walk. Yevoli was recently signed as a free agent from the Independent League. Stephan Perakslis (1-3 3.19) got the final two outs in the 9th but allowed two hits and a walk, which plated two runs, both charged to Yevoli.

Short-Season—Boise at Everett

Game was rained out and a doubleheader will be played tomorrow starting at 5 p.m. PST.

Arizona Rookie League—Cubs 6, Giants 4

The bats of Wilfredo Petit and Francisco Sanchez powered the Cubs (16-19) over the Giants (27-7).

At the Plate: Wilfredo Petit (.182) and Francisco Sanchez (.208) provided the fire power Friday night driving in all six runs. Petit ripped a two-run single in the second and added a RBI single in the eighth. Sanchez had a pair of triples, the second plating two runs in the 8th. Kelvin Freeman (.276) went 2-3 and Mark Malave (.250) was 1-3 with a run scored.

On the Mound: Erick Leal, (3.48 ERA, 31 IP) acquired in the Tony Campana trade, got the start and went five innings allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. The 18-year-old right-hander fanned eight and has 33K in 31 IP. Jose Arias (0-0 2.53), on rehab from Kane County, may be headed back to the MWL as the right-hander fanned six in three no-hit innings. Luis Villialba (0-0 2.12) pitched the ninth allowing two runs, one earned on two hits and a walk.

Dominican Summer League—Game 1, Cubs 4, Brewers 3; Game 2—Cubs 9, Brewers 5

Cubs (35-17) swept the Brewers (16-35) in a pair of seven-inning games.

At the Plate:GAME 1—The Cubs scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win. Shamil Ubiera (.278) doubled home Varonex Cuevas (.283) and Adonis Paula (.264), and then Roberto Caro’s (.253) single plated Ubiera for the win. The Cubs opened the game with four straight singles but could only score once, as Roberto Garcia (.229) scored on Paula’s base hit. Cuevas and Ubiera had two hits. GAME 2—Ubiera powered the offense with a pair of three-run homers (4). Cuevas went 3-3 and scored three times while Paula was 2-4 with two runs. Jose Paniagua (.203) added 2 RBI..

On the Mound: GAME 1—18-year-old lefty Jose Paulino had his best outing of the season (10 games) holding the Brewers scoreless for six innings with eight strikeouts. He allowed two hits and a walk and has 54 Ks in 42 IP. Jeffrey Hernandez was charged with three runs in the 7th on four hits. Luiz Escaino got the final out of the 7th and got the win. GAME 2—Dilson Vasquez (3-1 3.33) got the win despite giving up a run in .2 innings. Jesus Baldayaque (1-3 1.86) recorded his second save holding the Brewers scoreless in the final two frames. Andin Diaz got the start allowing four runs in 4.1 IP with seven strikeouts.
