The top 105 players begin fall camp and all other players are eligible to report after classes begin on Monday, Aug. 19. The 105 number allows for all returning scholarship players, all new scholarship players with those numbers adding up to right at the 85 limit.
It is expected that sometime into fall camp Gundy will announce some players have been awarded scholarships. That number also allows for some top walk-ons to report as well. It is expected that all players designated on the 105 list will report without any problems.
The position groups where the most scrutiny is expected and where there could be either prime battles for starting position or depth issues include running back (depth), offensive line (depth), defensive end (both), cornerback (depth), safety (starter), and punter and kicker (starters).
Practices begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday with the first two days being simply in helmets and shorts. The Cowboys add shoulder pads on Sunday, and then Tuesday is the first practice in full pads.
Friday, Aug. 9, is the first two-a-day practice day and the Cowboys will also go through two practices on Monday, Aug. 12, Wednesday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 16.
There are scrimmages scheduled each Saturday during camp before camp closes with the team having off Sunday, Aug. 18, and Monday, Aug. 19, for the first day of classes. Practices will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 20, as preparation will intensify for the opener in Houston against Mississippi State on Aug. 31.
All practices during fall camp and after classes begin are closed to the public.
Fan Appreciation Day is this Saturday with doors to Gallagher-Iba Arena opening at 1 p.m. and the autograph session with players and coaches runs from 2-4 p.m.
