James Washington becomes the 14th player to commit to the Cowboys for the 2014 recruiting class, and is the first receiver in the class.
Washington caught 78 passes for 1,147 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior last season in helping Stamford to a 14-1 record and the Texas Class A state championship.
In the Stamford Boys 35-28 victory over Mart in Cowboys Stadium in the Class A state championship game, Washington caught seven passes for 37 yards, including touchdown receptions of 9 and 2 yards.
“I was really impressed. That’s the best stadium I’ve ever seen,” said Washington of his visit to Stillwater. He spent most of his visit to OSU with Cowboys receivers coach Kasey Dunn and also met with first-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
Washington’s best game of the 2012 season came in the first round of Stamford’s 67-13 victory over Tahoka on Nov. 23. He caught six passes for 147 yards, including TD receptions of 41 yards in the first quarter and 22 yards and 61 yards in the second period, before adding a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
