World Team Trials Is A Can't Miss Event

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State wrestling fans get the supreme treat this weekend as Gallagher-Iba Arena will host the finest wrestlers in the United States in men's freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women's freestyle, as well as junior freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. The U.S. representatives will be decided for the upcoming World Championships and Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

There are five former Oklahoma State wrestlers that have a legitimate shot at being on the U.S. team for the World Championships.

U.S. Open champion Obe Blanc (55 kg/121 lbs.), Olympic bronze medalist at London last summer Coleman Scott (60 kg/132 lbs.), U.S. Open runners-up Jordan Oliver (66 kg/145.5 lbs.), Clayton Foster (84 kg/185 lbs.) and Chris Pendleton (96 kg/211.5 lbs.) will be wrestling.

"I'll tell you this for our fans, we have five guys involved and all of them have a chance," said Oklahoma State and Team USA coach John Smith. "This will be the best wrestling we have seen here in a long time and guys are really going to be going after it. It is all on the line.

"I'm very excited for our guys and for our fans to be a part of this. There will be four mats out there and it will be non-stop action."

In addition to the former Cowboys, the highlight of the freestyle competition will include the new superstar in wrestling in former Nebraska Cornhusker and 2012 gold medalist in London in Jordan Burroughs. Burroughs will be favored at 74 kg/163 lbs., but he will possibly have to face four-time NCAA champion and recent NCAA Wrestler of the Year in Kyle Dake, formerly of Cornell.

"Jordan is the face of wrestling," said Coleman Scott. "He is taking the sport to places it has never been. He is so good and he has a personality and he is getting endorsements and attention for wrestling that normally have only gone to other sports. He is very good for wrestling. On top of that he is a beast of a wrestler."

In addition to the men's freestyle and the Greco-Roman, women will wrestle for the first time in Gallagher-Iba Arena, and it will be interesting to see how OSU fans respond. There will be a heavy Oklahoma flavor to the women's wrestling as some of the top competitors in virtually every weight are out of the Oklahoma City University program.

Sunday is the day the juniors in freestyle and Greco-Roman will compete for positions on the USA Juniors team.

Here is a complete schedule for the weekend along with the former OSU wrestlers and what day they will compete. All-session tickets are still available through the Oklahoma State ticket office or at theworldteamtrials.com. General admission is $30 and reserved 200-level tickets are $50. Single session tickets will also be sold for the event.
