The broadcast teams had the choice of each submitting a ballot or to work together on a ballot that would count twice. Exactly half of the schools chose to submit a ballot out of teamwork as Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas and West Virginia all submitted one ballot. The broadcasters at the other schools submitted individual ballots.
Besides the unanimous selections of Smart and Withey, there were two other awards in which all the votes were the same. Bruce Weber of Kansas State was the only coach that received votes as Big 12 Coach of the Year and Iowa State’s Tyrus McGee was a unanimous selection as the Big 12 6th Man of the Year.
The most contentious category by the broadcasters was the Big 12 Game of the Year. Four different contests drew votes including the Kansas at Oklahoma State overtime thriller, the Bedlam Game in Stillwater where OSU downed OU in overtime, and TCU's upset of Kansas in Fort Worth.
The winner was the late season overtime thriller at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames that saw Kansas get 39 points from Elijah Johnson to beat Iowa State in overtime 108-96.
Below is the complete list of honors voted on by the Big 12 radio broadcasters. Only the play-by-play voice and color analysts from the official radio network at each of the Big 12 Conference schools were allowed to cast a ballot.
