The honors are just starting to pile up for Oklahoma State freshman Marcus Smart, who was named a first-team All-American and the national Freshman of the Year by Sporting News on Monday. He becomes the first Cowboy to ever be honored as the national Freshman of the Year by any publication.

The 6-foot-4 freshman from Flower Mound, Texas led the 14th-ranked Cowboys to a 23-7 record and third-place finish in the Big 12 Conference this season. The Cowboys will face Baylor at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City.

Smart is averaging 15.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game for head coach Travis Ford’s squad.

He is joined on the All-American team by Georgetown's Otto Porter, Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga, Indiana's Victor Oladipo and Trey Burke of Michigan.

Smart becomes the fourth OSU player to receive first-team All-America honors by Sporting News, joining James Anderson (2010), Gale McArthur (1951) and Bob Kurland (1945 & '46).
