The
Lady Raiders pulled in their fourth-straight win on Sunday against TCU, 53-42,
inside the United Spirit Arena, which also pulls Texas Tech (16-4, 6-2 in Big
12 Conference play) into second place in the Big 12.
Starting
off slow, the Lady Raiders fell behind in the first half, but pulling out a
lead of two points right before the halftime buzzer, 27-25.
“In
the first half, it was kind of hard, because, I know for myself, was a foul situation,”
said Monique Smalls, guard, “but the second half we just looked at, nobody is
in foul trouble, nobody is hurt, everybody is healthy, let’s go attack them,
and that’s what we did. And, because of that Chynna was able to get steals,
Casey was able to get steals, we were able to get easy shots and fast breaks.”
Chynna Brown, once again was force to be reckoned with scoring 23 points and grabbing
11 boards, marking new career-highs in both categories and also registering her
first ever double-double.
“I
don’t pay attention to the score or how many points I’ve scored,” said Brown,
“I just want to win and I wouldn’t have got those points without my teammates
getting me the ball or coming off a screen court or rebound.”
Christine Hyde trailed only Chynna Brown in rebounds, Hyde with ten and Brown with
twelve.
When
asked how it is to see her teammate, Brown, doing so well in the past games,
Monique Smalls says that it’s really nice to see the hard work paying off for
her.
She
said that the shooting every day and all the hard work on and off the court as
well as in and out of practice is finally coming together and it feels great to
see her and her other teammates happy.
The
next game for the Lady Raiders is against No. 1 Baylor on Wednesday at 7:00pm
in the United Spirit Arena.
