Five-star Treadwell picks Ole Miss

Five-Star receiver Laquon Treadwell of Crete-Monee (Ill.) High held his commitment ceremony at his high school and announced that he was off to the SEC.

One of the nation's top wide receivers, Laquon Treadwell from Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School, made his college decision Thursday, committing to Ole Miss in an announcement at his school.

The five-star wide receiver was down to Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State after taking official visits to all three.

"It was a very hard decision," Treadwell said. "I have family down in the Oklahoma area. I had a great relationship with them. I knew Ole Miss was the best school for me."

Treadwell held additional offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, LSU and others. His decision comes on the heels of an outstanding senior season where he lead the Warriors to their first state title, while catching 75 passes for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He believes with the other receivers there and how the Rebels plan to use him, he can be successful and capitalize on the talents that earned him a five-star rating.

"They want to move me around inside and outside," Treadwell said. "With Moncrief being there, they can't really double-team me."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Treadwell took several visits down to Oxford throughout the process and also felt very comfortable with the coaching staff there, particularly head man Hugh Freeze.

"Coach Freeze is great," Treadwell said. "He is like a role model already. He is a funny guy. He shows you a good time and I have a great relationship with him already."

Now that his decision is over, Treadwell can concentrate on moving forward to college, where he will be reunited with former teammate and close friend Anthony Standifer, a freshman corner at Ole Miss.

"He's like my best friend," Treadwell said. "They have been down there a long time now, and that's where I needed to be -- with Anthony."
