Coming off the bench and providing a spark has become Red
Raider junior forward Jaye Crockett’s specialty, especially in 2012.
The Clovis, New Mexico native averaged just 8.8 points per
game in his sophomore campaign, which ranked third on the team, but has doubled
that output this season averaging 16.2 points per game making him the nation’s
No. 1 sixth man.
Following his fifth double-double of the season against
North Carolina A&T, scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, a
career-high, Crockett has a new first in his career – Big 12 Conference
Player of the Week honors.
On Monday, the Big 12 announced Crockett as the final Big 12
Player of the Week recipient for the 2012 season following his solid
performance against North Carolina A&T.
The 20-point performance marked the fourth of the season and
his career alike, and has now scored in double-digits 28 times in his career
and nine times this season.
Crockett has now scored in double figures in nine
consecutive games, also extending his streak of consecutive games scored in to
23, trailing just sophomore Jordan Tolbert, with 41.
Crockett ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring and first in
rebounding averaging 9.4 per game this season.
The junior will try and continue his scoring and double-digit
performance streak on Monday as the Red Raiders (6-4) take on the Rattlers
(4-8) in their final non-conference game of the season at noon inside the
United Spirit Arena.
