Jefferson named second team AP All-American

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooner free safety Tony Jefferson led the team with 113 tackles among other stats, and that was enough to get him on the All-American team as a second team recipient.

Jefferson, who also finished with a pair of interceptions, five passes deflected and three breakups plus 3.5 tackles for loss, became one of just nine Big 12 nominees for the honor.

Only a pair of those, Baylor's Terrance Williams and West Virginia's Tavon Austin, made first team.

Outside of that, Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, West Virginia wide receiver Stedman Bailey, Baylor offensive guard Cyril Richardson and Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown all joined him on the second team.

TCU cornerback Jason Verrett and Kansas State safety Ty Zimmerman earned third team defense honors.

As for Jefferson, the junior from Chula Vista, Calif., will have another year of eligibility, but many expect him to declare for the 2013 NFL Draft.

A return, on the other hand, makes him a likely pick for first-team next year heading into the season.
