Hocutt, while at sons soccer game, receives a phone call from a Cincinnati
number, does not answer lets it go to voicemail. Checks voicemail, it is
Cincinnati Athletic Director Whit Babcock informing him on his intentions to
speak to Tuberville about opening with Bearcats
Saturday –
10:32 a.m.: Hocutt receives phone call from Tuberville in which he resigns
from Texas Tech and informs him of his intentions to take the Cincinnati job.

p.m.: Texas Tech team meeting called
Saturday – 4:30
p.m.: Hocutt addresses the media concerning the future of the Red Raider
football program ensuring they will have a intense search for the next head
coach and want someone that fits in West Texas. No timetable set and no interim
head coach named at the time.
Saturday- 5:30 p.m.: Former
Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville is introduced in Cincinnati as the new
head coach of the Bearcats. Tuberville said the people of West Texas were
great, but something felt right about the Cincinnati job.
Saturday Evening: It’s
reported that Cincinnati will have to pay the remaining three years left on Tuberville’s contract, which adds up to a $900,000 buyout
Sunday Evening: Reports
start surfacing that Texas Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown is going to
return to his alma mater where he played football, Kentucky to be the offensive
coordinator. His reported salary would be around $600,000 compared to the
$360,000 a year he made at Tech
Monday Morning: According
to offensive line coach Chris Thomsen, he was called by Hocutt and asked if he
would serve as the interim head coach for the bowl game. Thomsen accepted.
Thomsen was the former head coach at Abilene Christian University and had a
51-21 mark at the helm of that program

p.m.: Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown resigns
Monday – 3:00
p.m.: Chris Thomsen addresses the media for the first time as the interim
head coach. Thomsen states that inside receivers coach Sonny Cumbie will coach the quarterbacks and call the plays in
the bowl game.
Monday Afternoon: Brown
is officially announced as the new offensive coordinator for the Kentucky
Wildcats and a 5 year deal worth 3 million dollars a year is being reported as
what Tuberville could get at Cincinnati.
