These last two weeks have
just been really busy for me. I haven't really had much free time because I
leave for San Diego next Wednesday and I have been doing extra work on the side
to get ready for the camp [EA Elite 11 Quarterback Camp]. It has really kept me
busy, but I am really looking forward to the trip. I have been to Los Angeles
before, but never San Diego. It sounds pretty cool the way they have everything
scheduled. We are gonna have four days of practice and classroom time and then
they have three outings planned for us. We are going to the beach one day and
then to watch a San Diego Chargers practice and I'm not too sure about the last
one, but I am pretty excited to watch the Chargers. My mom is going to stay home
this time. She said she needs some rest and a break from all of this. I don't
blame her, she has been right there through everything.
Last week I went to Georgia
and visited. I had a good time and it was a long trip because we drove. Me and
my mom and dad and my two teammates took turns driving so we could just
keep the truck rolling. The only thing about Georgia is that I felt like a
foreigner there, just because there was no one from Texas around. Everyone else
came from schools in Georgia or Mississippi and Florida, so it was a little
weird in that way. It made me think a lot, but when we got home, me and my mama
just talked about it and she helped me to realize that is just part of the whole
deal and there will be something like that wherever I go. It is just part of
growing up, I guess. She is good with stuff like that, she just sits me down and
tells me how it is, and I feel a lot better about that now.
Yeah, so Georgia already
has a quarterback commitment [AJ Bryant, Fort Valley, GA], and the two
quarterbacks they already have [David Greene and DJ Shockey] are good too, but
that isn't something I am really concerned with. As a matter of fact, they did
sit me down and tell me they were looking to sign two QB's this year, and they
already have the one. [Bryant] is a good high school quarterback, don't get me
wrong, but with Georgia, I see them maybe moving him to receiver or defensive
end. The boy can really throw, but they might move him around to better suit
their needs and that could open up possibilities for me. It really doesn't play
a big part in my decision that they are stocked so much at the position. It is
kind of a good thing because you are going to have competition anywhere you go
in life. I would rather compete right out of the gate as a freshman to
mature quicker as a player. Each of the schools I am considering, Oklahoma
State, Georgia, Ohio State, all of them...they all have that competition level
that I am looking for.
Ohio State, well, I haven't
taken the visit yet because my high school coach likes all that to be done by
the time we start really practicing, or he wants us to do it in the seven weeks
after the season is over until signing day. So, I will have to wait on that one.
I can't say much on this since I haven't been there and made one-on-one contact
with them, just like I really couldn't say much about Georgia until I went
there. Here's the thing: Anyone can win a national championship. I am not
wanting to go somewhere just because they won a national championship in the
past. I want to be in a place that I can feel at home and that I can play
football. They [Buckeyes] look good on paper and all, and they are the
champions, but I don't lean toward somewhere based on that. There are a lot more
factors that go into my decisions, and after I take an official visit there I
can make that choice.
Summer school is over, it
ended the last day of June so now I can really focus on football until school
starts again. I really have a good feeling about this season for our team. Today
is the last day the coaches will be out there with us on the field because
of summer regulations, so we will be out there pushing ourselves for a
while. Today they kind of prepared us for what we will be experiencing
on Monday by ourselves. The captains, we feel pretty comfortable with that
role, and I like that. Being out there without the coaches is sometimes good, we
get to bond with each other and be forced to push each other. I think it makes
you stronger as a team. But, the coaches have been around a while, so it will be
good when they can come back out and help us, because with them, you are going
to get better each time they help you with something.
It is hard to tell how far
we are as a team right now, since we are just in summer practices. I have a good
feeling, though. We have some great receivers and linebackers, and I
think we are pretty well-rounded. We report a week before school starts for
two-a-days like on the 15th or 16th. I can't wait until the week of the 11th,
seriously. We get to put on the pads then, and that is what I work for all
summer long, to get to that point. There is just something
about wearing them that really gets you pumped up and ready for the
season. The pads -- I really can't wait.
Stay tuned for
more from Bobby as next time he tells about his trip to San
Diego...

Robert Reid 6-3, 220 North Shore (Houston, Texas) Yet another talented Texan signal caller in
what has to be one of the best years for quarterbacks the state has ever
produced. With three of our top six and a few others from the state that still
have a solid shot at making the EA SPORTS Elite 11, Texas is definitely the
place to be when looking for a standout quarterback. Reid is big-time athlete
with a great arm and a huge upside He reminds us a lot of Donovan McNabb athletically at the
same stage.
As a junior, Reid threw for 1,485 yards and
13 touchdowns while also rushing for 776 yards and 16 more scores. He shows up
very well on film boasting a strong arm, great escape-ability and can really
run. He has clocked a 10.7 in the 100m and ran a 4.46 in the 40 while jumping 35
inches in the vertical at the Nike Camp in College Station
(Texas). |
