Big Jack Kurzu Commits To Cowboys

The Oklahoma State Cowboys picked up their second verbal commitment for the 2013 recruiting season on Monday. But big offensive tackle prospect Jack Kurzu asked us when we spoke to him on Tuesday night to hold the story until 1 p.m. Wednesday so that he could tell his teammates and friends at Mary Institute and Saint Louis.

The 6-5, 302-pound product of St. Louis said he really favored the Cowboys after making four trips to Stillwater.

"When I went down there for spring practice that was my fourth trip," said Kurzu. "I was there with my mom and dad. I love the campus, and I love everything about Oklahoma State.

"My parent really loved the school when they were there. My mom went to college at Saint Louis University and my dad played at Florida. I was looking at a lot of schools, like some 20 in all. I was looking at Auburn, Ball State, Florida, Troy, Missouri, and Harvard."

Kurzu is not only stout on the football field but he is also a good student. He is also very well spoken and had no problem articulating why he chose Oklahoma State.

"I have to tell you that Coach (Mike) Gundy's philosophy of character, discipline, and work ethic is something that I really embrace," said Kurzu. "I told Coach Gundy that I wished I could be there tomorrow. I told him that I want to get there as soon as I can.

"When I watched Coach (Joe) Wickline and the offensive line at practice I could tell he is one of the best offensive line coaches in the sport, and I know he can do great things with me. I'm really excited about the opportunity at Oklahoma State."

Kurzu, who also throws the shot put and discus in track and said he has a 45-foot effort this spring, is considering either English or history as a major. He has thought about being an author or writer. We told you he is a good student. He is also good in the weight room with a bench press max of right around 320 pounds and a recent squat max of 545 pounds.

Kurzu joins Tyler (John Tyler), Texas wide receiver Fred Ross as the Cowboys two current verbal commitments in the 2013 recruiting class.
