Williams Has Huge Game In Playoff Win

Earlier in the season Trey Williams, one of the top running back prospects in Texas and the nation, had a huge night on Sept. 10 against The Woodlands College Park as he scored four touchdowns and rushed for 255 yards on 29 carries.

You would think that College Park would have been clued in to come up with a really good defensive plan to put the brakes on Williams. Instead, Williams was even better last Friday in the playoff opener against that same The Woodlands College Park team. The 5-9, 176 pound speedster was a "work horse" as he carried 38 times for 322 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-21 win by the Wildcats.

"Oh yeah, it was okay," said Williams of his night. He said his coaches had him at 359 yards but 322 was what the officials put in the book. "My offensive line blocked really good and we played good overall. It was good to get the win."

It really is impressive when you think that Dekaney just began playing varsity football back in 2008. The school is really new. Now it is on to the second round of the playoffs.

"We have Pflugerville," said Williams.

Williams committed this past spring to Texas A&M, but he confirmed that he did tweet (@tw113) last week about Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy writing that he spoke with Gundy on the phone and that he was a "cool guy."

"He called me. He's called a few times and he is a cool guy," said Williams. "I like talking to him. He is a friendly guy. Texas Tech calls some too. I am committed to Texas A&M, proudly committed."

Asked if that was solidly and proudly Williams said, "yes, solidly and proudly." Asked if he is inclined to quit talking on the phone. He said, "No, I like talking to coaches."

On the season, Williams has rushed for 2,740 yards on 293 carries. He also has 6,960 yards and 69 touchdowns in his prep career with at least another game to go.
