Seeing Sanders: Kendall, Barry Sit Together

Kendall Sanders

As noted in our list of prospects attending the game on Saturday, there were two Sanders in the stands at Boone Pickens Stadium to see the Oklahoma State Cowboys 59-24 win over Baylor. Record-setter Kendall Sanders of Athens, Texas made the trip to Stillwater, as was Heritage Hall record-setter Barry J. Sanders.

Both have had big stages this season with Barry J. Sanders and his unbeaten teammates at Heritage Hall scoring a 55-10 win on Friday night on national television (ESPNU) over district rival Bethany. Sanders had a touchdown receiving and rushing in the game with over 100 yards both rushing and receiving.

Sanders, who is at most Oklahoma State games and has been most of his life, is considering the Cowboys with Stanford, Alabama, and Florida State. He is set to announce his decision at the U.S. Army All-American Game on Jan. 7.

The two Sanders sat on the front row for the game on Saturday.

Kendall Sanders is already committed to Oklahoma State and the 5-11, 173-pound speedster is threatening his own single season school touchdown record. A couple of weeks ago Sanders was missing the game with Bullard as he was sick and he suited up at halftime.

Playing just the second half, he earned the Texas Built Ford Tough Class 3A Player of the Week with what he accomplished. He ended up running for 229 yards and two touchdowns in a quarter and a half during the second half of the Athens Hornets' 42-21 win over the Bullard Panthers.

He had been ill all week and with his team tied with Bullard, 14-14, at halftime, when he suited up and asked into the game.

"He told me he didn't want to let his teammates down,"?Athens head coach Paul Essary told the Athens Review. " ... He's the classic high-character role model. It's rare that a kid's personality and character matches his athletic ability."

"We need to beat Chapel Hill this week or have Rusk beat Bullard," Sanders told us Sunday afternoon. "We'll make the playoffs." As for his opportunity to see Oklahoma State play on Saturday.

"It went great, my sister came with me," described Sanders. "I thought it was going to be closer, but my team came out on top. They can really score in a hurry."

Sanders left before the game was over with the drive back home to Athens. "We got home at a good time."
