Hawkins Talks About His Commitment

Offensive tackle prospect Donald Hawkins of Northwest Mississippi C.C. has been tied up the last several days with summer semester exams on the Senatobia, Miss., campus. So being the polite guy that he is, Hawkins text messaged that he would call us back later Thursday morning and that he apologized for the missed calls. When Hawkins did call back he confirmed that he did commit to Oklahoma State.

"I decided on Tuesday and I had been thinking about it for awhile," Donald Hawkins said. "I knew the coaches there were eager for me to decide, you know Coach (Joe) Wickline. I was going to go check out Auburn and I think they were close to offering but I will probably cancel that now."

The 6-5, 320-pound Hawkins did have offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss. It has been a long hot summer in Senatobia getting ready for the upcoming football season and also wrapping up summer school.

"I did pretty good. I had one A, one B, and a C after my final exams," Hawkins answered after being asked about his exams. "We start preseason practice on Monday, so I am going to go home for a few days and relax."

Hawkins did say he would come on my radio show Friday at noon. No doubt, he will also get some good ol' home cooking from his mom while back home in Tunica, Miss.
