Kason Key On The Move

Posted Apr 1, 2011

Having seen him in person now, Kason Key is an impressive looking quarterback. The Owasso, Okla., product is a legit 6-4, 212 pounds and coming off basketball season is now working hard toward football and is also working the colleges this spring.

"Recruiting is going good right now and I've been getting a lot more love lately," said the well spoken Key. "I've been going around to a lot more schools and watching spring practices."

Key was in Stillwater last Friday to watch Oklahoma State practice. He was accompanied by his father (Scott), his two younger brothers (Coleman and Carter), and his quarterback coach at Owasso (Larry Miller).

"We were at Oklahoma State and that went well," explained Key. "We had a chacne to talk to Coach (Mike) Gundy and Coach (Todd) Monken. Two weeks ago we were at Missouri to watch their first scrimmmage. The last couple of days I was over at Tulsa watching practice, and the Saturday after we were at OSU we went to Norman and watched OU. Tomorrow after school we're going over to Arkansas and will be there this weekend."

Key has also heard from Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas, more recently Arizona, and he was invited to camp this summer at LSU and also got mail from Oregon.

Key's father played college football at Central Oklahoma in Edmond and his mother had a basketball scholarship to Central Oklahoma, but a back problem kept her from playing. She actually was on a vocal scholarship.

"I'm wide open, but I'm looking for atmosphere at a school and a place where I am comfortable," said Key when asked what he is shopping for in a school. "How I fit in at quarterback at a school and playing time? How much I will get and how early I could play? I'm looking to major in either electrical or mechanical engineering."

Key just got out of basketball but is working to improve on what was a really good season in 2010. Key completed 166-of-287 passing for 2,079 yards and 20 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.

He is athletic enough to move around in the pocket and scramble but he is a throwing quarterback. Physically, he is what schools are looking for and his recruitment should work out very well for him.
