Randolph Misses OSU's Junior Day

Shakiel Randolph

Standout Shakiel Randolph of Waco (Midway), Texas was planning on making the trip to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend to see Oklahoma State and check out the Cowboys program. But the 6-5, 190-pound safety is also a pretty salty post player on the basketball court and it was hoops that kept him in Waco over the weekend.

"Our basketball team made it to the playoffs and I thought it was more important for me to hang around and go to practice this weekend," said Randolph, who we hate to say we interupted his studying for a physics test. "We open up Tuesday at Ennis and we are playing Crowley."

Randolph, who had five interceptions this season is an exceptional athlete that even with the size, 6-5, 190 pounds has run a best of 4.46 in the forty and is currently listed at 4.47. Either is really, really fast.

Asked who all he has heard from and the list he rattles off is impressive. "Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Baylor, of course, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Arkansas," said Randolph.

"I've been to Texas A&M and Baylor for junior days. They both went pretty good and I got to learn a lot more about those programs. I was going to Oklahoma State this weekend and I still plan on going there, and I was supposed to go to LSU but that was the week that the weather was so bad so I didn't go then either."

An excellent student, Randolph has three criteria he is looking at regarding schools. The first is academics.

"You start with academics because they have to have the things you need after football because you can't always play football," said Randolph. "Second, has to do with football and how I fit in with their scheme. Third, does it feel like home? It has to be like home because you are going to be there for four years."

Randolph said he is considering the medical field or a business major, but he is leaning toward the medical field.
